Chennai, July 25, 2023;
Tamil superstar and MNM founder Kamal Haasan is likely to contest the Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency in the 2024 general elections as part of the DMK-led alliance.
According to sources, Haasan has been in talks with the DMK leadership for some time now, and an agreement is likely to be reached soon. The Coimbatore constituency is considered to be a stronghold of the DMK, and Haasan's entry into the fray is likely to boost the alliance's chances of victory.
Haasan is a popular actor and politician in Tamil Nadu, and his decision to contest from Coimbatore is likely to generate a lot of interest. The constituency is home to a large number of Tamils, and Haasan's popularity among the community could help him win the seat.
If Haasan does contest from Coimbatore, it will be his first electoral battle in the state since 1996. He had contested the Lok Sabha elections from the Coimbatore South constituency in 1996, but lost to the AIADMK's M.K. Alagiri.
The 2024 Lok Sabha elections are still two years away, but the political temperature in Tamil Nadu is already rising. The DMK-led alliance is hoping to make a comeback in the state, and Haasan's entry into the fray could give them a much-needed boost.
