Aakash Chopra Slams Indian Cricket Team Management for Underutilizing Umran Malik's Pace in Death Overs
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has slammed the Indian cricket team management for underutilizing pacer Umran Malik. Chopra believes that Malik is not being given enough opportunities to bowl in the death overs, where his pace and yorkers can be most effective.
"I think Umran Malik is not being used properly," Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel. "He is being given the ball only in the first few overs, when the batsmen are still settling in. He should be given the ball in the death overs, when he can really exploit his pace."
Chopra's comments come after Malik was only given two overs in the first ODI against West Indies. In those two overs, he conceded 22 runs and took one wicket.
"I think the Indian team management is too scared of giving Umran Malik the ball in the death overs," Chopra said. "They are worried that he will leak runs. But I think they need to take a risk with him. He is a special talent, and he needs to be given the opportunity to show what he can do."
Malik has been in excellent form in recent months. He has taken 15 wickets in his last five T20I matches, and he has been clocked at speeds of up to 156 kilometers per hour.
"Umran Malik is a bowler with a lot of potential," Chopra said. "He has the pace, he has the yorkers, and he has the attitude. He is a match-winner in the making, and the Indian team management needs to use him properly."
It remains to be seen whether the Indian team management will heed Chopra's advice and give Malik more opportunities to bowl in the death overs. However, if they do, it could be a masterstroke. Malik has the potential to be a world-class bowler, and he could be a key asset to the Indian team in the years to come.
