Conjunctivitis Cases Surge in Delhi-NCR, AIIMS Sees 100 Cases Daily

The number of conjunctivitis cases in Delhi-NCR has spiked in recent weeks, with the national capital reporting about 100 cases per day. The surge in cases is being attributed to the ongoing monsoon season, which has created ideal conditions for the spread of the infection.

Conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, the thin membrane that lines the eyelids and covers the white part of the eye. The infection can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or allergies.

Symptoms of conjunctivitis include red, irritated eyes, swollen eyelids, and a thick, sticky discharge. In some cases, the infection can also cause pain, blurred vision, and sensitivity to light.

The most common way to spread conjunctivitis is through contact with infected mucus or tears. This can happen through direct contact with an infected person, or indirectly through contact with contaminated surfaces or objects.

There is no specific treatment for conjunctivitis, but the symptoms can usually be managed with over-the-counter eye drops or ointments. In some cases, antibiotics may be prescribed.

To help prevent the spread of conjunctivitis, it is important to practice good hygiene. This includes washing your hands frequently, avoiding touching your eyes, and not sharing eye makeup or towels.

If you think you may have conjunctivitis, it is important to see an eye doctor to get a diagnosis and treatment.

Here are some additional tips to help prevent the spread of conjunctivitis:

1.Avoid rubbing your eyes.
2.Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using the bathroom, changing diapers, or blowing your nose.
3.Avoid sharing eye makeup, towels, or other personal items with others.
4.Clean and disinfect any surfaces or objects that may have come into contact with an infected person's eyes.
5.If you have conjunctivitis, stay home from work or school until your symptoms have cleared up.
