Imphal, July 25, 2023:
Over 700 Myanmar nationals, including 301 children and 208 women, have entered Manipur's Chandel district in the past two days, according to the state government.
The government has sought a detailed report from the Assam Rifles, the border guarding force, on how these nationals were allowed to enter India without proper travel documents.
The influx of Myanmar nationals comes amid the ongoing clashes between the Myanmar military and the country's ethnic armed groups. The clashes have displaced thousands of people, who have fled to neighboring countries, including India.
The Manipur government has said that it will provide humanitarian assistance to the Myanmar nationals who have entered the state. However, the government has also said that it will take steps to prevent any illegal immigration.
